A Little Bit About Myself...
At the most basic level, my name is Laura Lipovsky. I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, which I received from the University of Akron. I am currently in my first year of graduate school also at The University of Akron for a degree in Special Education, as well as attaining a licensure as a Mild/Moderate Intervention Specialist. I initially had no intentions of going for this, and was originally attending the University for Community Counseling. After my first semester I received my first full time job work at a day placement program for individuals with disabilities, Blick Clinic. I never really imagined myself in this line of work, but the opportunity presented itself and I gladly took it. What is funny, is that I was in a Career Counseling class at the University, and we took a career placement inventory for ourselves. My top job that correlated most to my interests and personality was Special Education. I did not think much into it, because counseling was on the list also, which was obviously what I was going for. I got immediate reassurance because it was in my top five matchings that it was good for me, and I dismissed the rest of the information. I'm so grateful for getting hired into the clinic, because it really put my future into perspective for me. It was not until a few months later when I stumbled across that inventory and remembered Special Education was my first matching. I thought that was pretty neat.
I really enjoy what I do when I am at the clinic and I love the individuals that I work with. I changed my major to Special Education and I feel so confident with my decision. I am very excited to begin this journey in the field and to find something I love to do and completely sure of.
